Diese Medaille betont zunächst die Legitimität Karls IX., der nur aufgrund des frühen Todes seines Bruders Franz II., 1559 - 1560, im Alter von nur zehn Jahren und eher zufällig den Thron bestieg. Im Jahre 1566 ist er auch erst 16 Jahre alt. Aber sie zeigt auch die Stellung seiner Mutter als Regentin und der faktischen Herrscherin Frankreichs zu dieser Zeit.
