Bronzegussplakette o. J. (um 1560 - 1620), unsigniert. 79.38 g. Darstellung einer Vestalin. Einseitiger Hohlguss: Lagernde, leicht bekleidete Frau nach links, mit der Linken auf ein nach links liegendes Lamm gestützt, im Hintergrund links antike Stadtlandschaft mit zentralem Rundtempel. Rechteckig 121,5 x 80 mm. Alter, vielleicht zeitgenössischer Guss / Old, maybe contemporary cast. Vorzüglich / Extremely fine. Messingfarben, gelocht / Brass coloured, pierced.
Die Deutung der Frauengestalt, oberflächlich naheliegend, als Venus überzeugt nicht. Das Lamm als Attribut passt nicht recht ins Bild. Aufschlussreich hingegen ist die Rotunde im Hintergrund, die dem Tempel der Vesta entspricht, wie er uns durch antike Münzbilder, beispielsweise auf Denaren des Nero (RIC I, 62. Cohen 335), überliefert ist. Die Frauengestalt muss daher richtigerweise als Vestalin angesprochen werden. Die überlängte Körperform deutet in die Zeit des Manierismus.
